Don’t let your swimming pool go green this winter, it may well cost you a lot of money to treat the water and bring it back to a clear state.

It is so important to close your swimming pool down correctly for the off season. To avoid damage to the equipment and shell of your pool, balancing the pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness, and controlling Chlorine levels are so critical. Incorrectly balanced pools can be corrosive or scale forming and can be costly in the long term.

Some easy preparation to winterise your pool:

Vacuum your pool

Chemically treat filters, then backwash and rinse

Clean out skimmer and pump baskets.

Grease pump and filter O-rings with a special rubber grease, this prevents cracking and expansion of the O-ring.

Bring in a water sample to be comprehensively analysed, and add balance chemicals as required.

Adjust salt chlorinator times back to 3-4 hours a day. Adjust chlorine production back to half of summer setting.

For pools which have covers it is critical to check chlorine and pH levels, as damage will occur to the cover and potentially your pool surface if these levels are not kept in check.

Continue with a monthly dose of 1 bag of Shock’N’Clear and 200mls of Powercide4 algaecide (based on pools with a volume of 50, 000 litres). Check pH and chlorine levels weekly. Do not allow pH and chlorine levels to get to high or too low over the off season. We recommend your pH to be maintained at 7.5, and Chlorine 1-3ppm.

Grab your WinterBox today for only $38-95 and save $26-95.

As an added bonus with any WinterBox purchase, take 15% off:

1lt Natural Filter Cleaner

750ml Tile & Vinyl Cleaner

4 bags of Shock ‘N’ Clear

It’s time to jazz up your next party with some pool party decorations that have just arrived in store. You may want a funky look or a romantic one; this glowing beach ball will put on a great light show at your next party, dazzling you and your guests. Watch the LED beach ball slowly change colour, providing all the decorations you need for your next party. They look amazing and are inexpensive at $9.95 each.

To get maximum impact, the balls look particularly impressive in multiples, filling your pool. The 30cm beach ball is so much fun and is a great toy for the kids to play with in the pool too. This beach ball is much more fun in the dark so try hanging them or floating them….two great options. It’s an ideal product for lighting up a Christmas party and creating an illuminated atmosphere that will impress all your guests.

Focus Aquashield3 is a 3-in-1 specialty solution used for a variety of purposes.

1: Cell Protector – It keeps build up on salt chlorinator cells soft and helps reduce the likelihood that they will occur in the first place. If a hard build up occurs, it will decrease the production of chlorine gas and reduce the overall efficiency of your pool equipment.

2: Scale Control – Assists in removing existing scale/stopping the build up of scale from pool walls, equipment and pipes.

3: Metal Magnet – Keeps metal particles such as iron and copper from falling out of solution. These solutions can cause a variety of coloured, unsightly staining.

Aquashield 3 is easy to apply and is only required once every 3 months for regular maintenance. Consistently adding Aquashield 3 to your pool will limit the chances of scale formation and staining. Scaling can be a wide range of unsightly build up from rough, white deposit forming on the pool surface to salt crystallization forming on the salt cell. High calcium levels and poor water chemistry balance are the main cause scale formation, not only around the pool water line, but also inside the pipes which can cause blockages and damage the pipes and attached equipment. Cartridge filters can become clogged and can destroy heaters and other attached equipment, running up costly repair bills.

Metal particles, including iron and copper, plating out of solution can cause semi permanent staining. Aquashield 3 can slowly lift the particles off the surface and back into the water to be filtered out. Staining colours vary from too much copper (usually resulting in a purple stain) or too much iron (sometimes resulting in grey or rust coloured stains).

Maintenance:

Add 1 litre of Aquashield 3 to 50,000 litres of water along the pool walls to soften any build up that has formed. Doing so with the pump and filter running helps Aquashield 3 make its way through the filtration system of the pool and distribute evenly to make sure that all surfaces of the pool and associated equipment are covered.

Have you ever found pool water which was balanced and appeared clear but when put under light the water doesn’t seem so clear anymore?

This is due to tiny floating contaminants which are buoyant, visible in a collective sense, but small enough to be passing through your filter.Waterpolis Plus

To entrap this matter you need to ‘bind’ them together to cause them to become large enough to be entrapped. To do this you need a clarifier. The perfect Focus products for the job may include Waterpolish Plus, Bling, Pool Sparklers or UltraSheen.

Sometimes the job requires more than this, after a super-chlorination or after treating a green pool for example. Floating contaminants need to be made heavy or larger; bound together causing them to sink where they can be vacuumed to waste. For this you need a Flocculant . Cookes Pools & Spas use Focus Products who supply LiquidFloc, and Pool Floc which could all be beneficial in this situation.

Most clarifiers contain cationic polymers. Technically the process is described as the desire of using flocculants and clarifiers to make these unwanted particles larger.

Chemically, dirty particles are negatively charged and repel each other. By adding clarifiers or flocculants (polymers which are positively charged) the dirt and debris will attract the polymer and form a larger structure. In the case of a clarifier, these can now be picked or strained out by your filter system and your water becomes clear.
